PPROM – Do you know about it???

Morning all, something is playing on my mind this morning, and its PPROM!!!

My waters with Cody broke at 24 weeks, I was told by the hospital no they haven't. I had a scan, "Danielle your waters are really low, they have leaked." Back to the hospital "NO THEY HAVEN'T"

Weeks went by, filling pads full of clear liquid, *gushes* felt constantly. I spoke to Little Heartbeats - PPROM Support and Awareness and was given information, No waters was managable, I needed to drink plenty of water, and they suggested I asked for antibiotics to prevent infection.

"NO Danielle your waters haven't gone!!" "you have a low lying placenta, there is no way your waters have gone!"

2 weeks later, "OH, yes your waters have gone!!"

Twice a day I had to go into hospital for Cody to be monitored, and then I was finally admitted after 10 days because it was taking a massive strain on me and family having to go back and forth every day.

If it wasn't for the help and encouragement from Ciara then I would have believed what I was told at the hospital and continued with the pregnancy as normal, not knowing the true risk. I persisted and was finally HEARD.

We asked for a review by the Gynaecology Director, Cody had stopped growing, and it was decided (with our input) that it was safer for him to be delivered than kept at higher risk. He was delivered by C Section at 30weeks, 3lb1oz, we managed one picture of him, and we heard him cry before he was whisked away to the SCBU to be cared for.

But Danielle why are you sharing this? Cody is 6!! YES but PPROM is still happening, and advice given by the NHS is still outdated and NOT following NICE guidelines. You know your own body, you know youre not going mad, you know youre not peeing yourself on a daily basis. I will ALWAYS advocate for women in this situation. Little heartbeats say "as long as they is a heartbeat there is hope" and I FULLY stand by this!!! Termination for low/no fluid is not always the right solution.

If you need help, or advice then speak to Little Heartbeats - PPROM Support and Awareness but I am ALWAYS just a phone call away too. xxx
